Structure
The course comprises of a research methods workshop and a research dissertation.
The research methods intensive workshop is offered in Adelaide. Before attending the workshop, candidates are required to undertake directed reading and to develop and submit a research proposal.
During the workshop, candidates will be provided with input on action research, case research, qualitative and quantitative research methods and the case study method. They will then undertake a literature review in their area of research and develop a research proposal under the guidance of the Research Supervisor.
They will then provide an oral and written presentation of their research proposal to a Supervisory Panel. When their research proposal has been approved by the Supervisory Panel and subsequently by the Human Research Ethical Standards Committee, the candidates will embark on fieldwork in their workplace and commence work on their research dissertation.
Assessment
Candidates are required to complete a research dissertation between 30,000 and 40,000 words, which will be examined by two independent examiners. The research dissertation should give evidence of the candidate's ability to plan, implement and write up the research project, as well as evidence of knowledge of the appropriate literature and an ability to critically evaluate it.
Professional Master of Management
The course structure is comprised of four phases:
- Four coursework subjects – Any four MBA level subjects. Assessment comprises of an assignment and exam for each subject. This phase comprises the Graduate Certificate in Management.
- Directed reading – candidates undertake in-depth reading specific to their subject area in order to complete a 5,000 word assignment.
- The project plan – this is a 5,000 word plan of a work based project to be conducted in the final stage.
- The work based project – in a minimum of 20,000 words, candidates present their project findings and methodologies of an original investigation based on their research. The project is examined by two examiners following an oral presentation.
