PHD: Assessment
^ UpThe candidate is required:
- to conduct a searching review of the literature relating to his/her research area;
- to undertake an original research project which will result in a significant contribution to knowledge and understanding and/or the application of knowledge within a discipline or field of study; and
- to complete a substantial and well-ordered thesis of between 60,000 and 80,000 words in length, excluding appendices, demonstrating the relationship of the research to the broader framework of the discipline or field of study.
When the thesis is submitted for examination, it is examined by two independent examiners who will normally hold research doctoral degrees in a discipline that is relevant to the area in which they examine. Assessment may include a viva voce.
