Adelaide, where AIBA’s campus is situated, is the state capital of South Australia with over 23,000 international students currently living and studying in Adelaide.

In the Economist Intelligence Unit’s December 2007 survey, Adelaide was ranked the seventh most livable city in the world and is also regularly ranked as one of the most affordable cities in Australia.

Living expenses in Adelaide are estimated at approximately AUD$14,000 per year or $270 a week. This is only a rough guide and costs will vary depending on a student’s lifestyle, preferences and location.

Students should note that in addition to tuition fees they will have additional day-to-day expenses to cover, including, but not limited to, accommodation, food, transport, textbooks and stationary, telephone and Internet, childcare (if applicable), entertainment and clothing.

High quality education, affordability of living and a friendly multicultural environment are just some of the advantages an International student will experience by coming to Adelaide to study.

Weather

Adelaide has a Mediterranean climate that is hot and dry in the Summer and cold and wet in the Winter. During Summer (December – February) temperatures average approximately 30 C. During Winter (June – August), the average temperature is approximately 12 C.

Employment

Full-time international students studying in Australia for more than three months automatically receive permission to work up to 20 hours per week during a study semester. However, it is important to remember that under the terms of a student visa, international students are required to have sufficient funds to cover the cost of tuition fees and living expenses for the duration of the course. A student can not rely on employment to supplement their living expenses while in Australia.

Transportation

Adelaide’s public transport system consists of trains, buses and trams. The Adelaide City Council also provides free buses and trams around the city centre.

All international students will have the same public transport discounts as local students, where by showing their student identification card, allows students concessions.

Students also have the option to buy or rent a car while they are in Adelaide by using their foreign driver’s licence (some conditions would apply). For further information on using a foreign driver’s licence in Adelaide, please visit www.transport.sa.gov.au/index.asp
